Mild Winters and Your Swimming Pool

Posted

As we know this has been a pretty mild winter, I've only scraped ice of the car 3-4 times and the daffodils are already starting to show! Unfortunately we've had ridiculous amounts of rain, while this is great for our national reserves it's been horrendous for all those affected by the floods and we hope that the waters rescind soon.

But what does this mean for the health of your swimming pool?

  • Rain water dilutes your pool water, this means that the level of winterising fluid will have dropped.
  • Rain washes algae spores in to your swimming pool.
  • The temperatures have been mild, this means algae is more prone to growing.

In conclusion it's a recipe for a green pool. It is worth checking your pool water and adding some more winteriser if you can, especially if you closed your pool down early.
